Friends of DeadEye Stare,

Just over a month ago, when it started getting clear that the novel coronavirus epidemic was getting out of control, we decided for the first time in DeadEye Stare’s history that we needed to cancel a show. Not long after, the governor of Maryland shut down all performances of this nature anyway and as of this writing, we still don’t know when that ban will be lifted.

As bar owners plan to re-open, we’ve had a few show offers trickle in for later in the summer. We’ve gone back and forth about whether or not we should take them. The truth is, we just don’t know. Sure, things may calm down this summer and perhaps we’ll be allowed to come out of our dens for the 4 th of July or sometime in August, but we all know that there will still be the chance to spread this dangerous infection, even as the surge starts to subside. None of us wants that on our conscience.

For that reason, we have decided to put DeadEye Stare performances on indefinite hiatus. Any bookings we have right now (public and private events) are cancelled. We will not take any new show offers until we are confident that everyone attending our performances can be kept safe from this invisible threat.

We are not breaking up. We love playing with each other too much to disband. We are using this time to learn all those songs we’ve been meaning to get to and hopefully, when conditions improve (and they will), we will come roaring back better than ever.

Every country around the world is throwing their best minds at this problem and science will eventually prevail. If you have the means, please give generously to organizations that are helping to fight the pandemic. If you are not an essential worker, stay at home. Whatever you do, always follow the guidance of the WHO and the CDC, keep in close (virtual) contact with your loved ones, and wash your hands.

We’ll see you when this is all over. HEALTH AND SAFETY TO ALL!
